This substance is found throughout our body and apart from building cells it also helps in the production of some hormones and vitamin D.2

There are two sources of cholesterol in the body: the liver, which synthesizes by itself a lot of cholesterol necessary for the functioning of the body, the second source comprises all animal-derived foods such as meat, dairy, birds, this is called dietary cholesterol.1

In order to be transported in your body cholesterol travels through its circulation in the form of lipoproteins. There are two lipoproteins that you may have heard of as :  “bad cholesterol” and “good cholesterol”, these are actually called low-density lipoproteins (LDL) and high-density lipoproteins (HDLs) respectively.2
