The hypertension

The higher your blood pressure levels, the greater your risk of developing other health problems, such as heart disease, heart attack, or cardiovascular disease.

Blood pressure is the force of the blood against the walls of the blood vessels. Arteries carry blood from your heart to other parts of the body. Blood pressure normally rises and falls throughout the day.1

Blood pressure is measured using 2 numbers:1

SYSTOLIC BLOOD PRESSURE

It measures the pressure in your arteries when your heart beats.

DIASTOLIC BLOOD PRESSURE

It measures the pressure in your arteries when your heart is resting between beats.

If the measurement reads 120 for systolic and 80 for diastolic, we typically say 120 over 80. No matter your age, a normal blood pressure level should stay below 120/80.

For its part, high blood pressure or commonly called hypertension, is one that is higher than normal. Having constant measurements of your blood pressure above the normal value could result in a diagnosis of hypertension.

The higher your blood pressure levels, the greater your risk of developing other health problems, such as heart disease, heart attack, or cardiovascular disease.

Your doctor may be able to diagnose high blood pressure and make treatment decisions by checking your blood pressure levels and comparing them to levels established in national and international guidelines.

There are usually no warning signs or symptoms of hypertension, in fact many people are unaware they have it. Taking a constant measurement is the only way to know if you have high blood pressure.
