What are the risks?

Heart attack or heart disease
High blood pressure can damage your arteries and make them less elastic, which decreases blood and oxygen flow to your heart, causing heart disease.

Cerebrovascular events or brain problems
High blood pressure can cause the arteries that carry blood and oxygen to the brain to rupture or become blocked, causing a stroke. These events can cause effects on speech, movement and other basic activities and can even lead to death.

Renal disease
Adults with diabetes or hypertension, or both, are at greater risk of developing chronic kidney disease than those without these conditio
